I adore teaching. It is my true passion in life. Middle school students are the most amazing people on the
planet! I have worked in several schools over the years: Tompkins High (1/2 year), Shuman Middle (20 years), Wilder/Coastal
Middle (3 years), and Hubert Middle (3 years). My experiences in this profession have been rich. I have operated two at-risk intervention programs (Another Chance at Education and the Eagles), ran a SRA
Math Lab, and served as a Title I Lead Teacher and America's Choice Math coach.
The community also rewarded me with the gift of working/directing two youth employment programs
for several years: Project Bridge and Project Y.E.S.S .(Youth Employment Stategies and Services). Professionally,
I was fortunate in 1996 to recieve an invitation to join the "traveling team" for the Coastal Georgia Writing Project
and sit on its advisory board. This organization forever changed my practices, as a teacher, and provided the opportunity
to serve as a teaching consultant in Savannah.
Indeed, my journey has been fantastic! As a part of the Curriculum Alignment Project in Savannah in 1986,
I was an integral part in the development of the seventh and sixth grades social studies curriculums, Parents' Guides,
and nine weeks exams. Indeed, the rewards have been many with several nominations for the teacher of the year by my peers.
Again, no reward equals returning to DeRenne Middle School. It was the source of my inspiration. At age
five, I enrolled in DeRenne Elementary and the journey began. How delightful to return to the namesake that instilled my love
of learning. No reward could be sweeter!
Please tell me about youself. Feel free to write back. How can I help you make this a successful, productive, and exciting year? Feel free to share your ideas, thoughts,
and views. Take care and have a great year!
